Exhibition: May 10 – June 14, 2012

HANNAH graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design with a BA (Hons) Graphic Design 2006.

HANNAH’s paintings are representative of her engagement with the process, showing preference for using classical techniques with a contemporary execution. Reflecting a passionate and creative energy that intersects the static with the fluid, her paintings invite the viewer into a labyrinth of unexpected colour and movement. HANNAH’s approach is to provide new life for abandoned objects, using them as canvases in a new context. She finds satisfaction in renewing the forgotten beauty of these discarded pieces and by presenting them once again to the world. HANNAH’s dynamic style exemplifies her illustrative technique and passion for working freehand, relying only on her observation skills.

My Family and Other Animals is composed of limited edition silkscreen prints and paintings on wood. Painted from a semi-autobiographical context, animals, ambiguous characters, and letterforms are applied in her hallmark style. Bold and energetic strokes are painted onto wood, complimenting and exposing the original qualities of the found material itself. HANNAH’s unique and recognizable visual language is created through the building up and sanding down of layers of animated brush strokes juxtaposed with prominent patterns and forms, creating the playful mood and overall tone.
