David Barnes is a Welsh photographer and film-maker based in Newport, with a diverse practice centred around a subjective experience of family and community.

With a core photographic approach augmented by installation and video, and often rooted in autobiography, the resultant body of work is an unhurried reflection on ‘home’, a sense of place, and our own relationship to memory and history.

David has exhibited widely in the UK and Europe, his work is held in private and public collections including the Visual Arts archive of the National Library of Wales.

David has a background in editorial and commercial photography – he has been a regular contributor to the UK’s top magazines including the Guardian Weekend Magazine, Observer magazine, Financial Times Weekend magazine and Telegraph Saturday magazine since 1998, has worked in film and TV including producing and directing two documentary films and is a regular visiting lecturer in Documentary Photography at the University of Wales, Newport. He has also developed and directed collaborative community and school film and photography projects.
