Project Mooncircle – Eclipse

As the soundtrack for the lunar eclipse during the night of the 25th of April, Project: Mooncricle has selected some exclusive and unreleased songs from Robot Koch, Submerse, Rain Dog, Sieren, Daisuke Tanabe, Lomovolokno, KRTS, and Daixie on this mini-compilation. Even though ACMV missed the eclipse and the right timing to feature this compilation, we still love the music waiting to have a prefect soundtrack for the next eclipse. Listen, enjoy and download it for free (how amazing is that?). Thanks Project: Mooncircle.

Worldwide, prisons are ‘home’ to more than 9 million people, and their numbers will only increase over the coming decades.  But what do our various societies seek to accomplish by locking up such massive numbers of offenders? CRUEL AND UNUSUAL is a collection of revealing and quite unexpected photography illustrating life behind bars. The exhibition looks at the ways the prison system is presented in images and how these images are created, distributed and consumed. Continue Reading →

Zhang Xiao | They

Zhang Xiao created They series in over 3 years from 2006-2008 during his time working as a photojournalist in Chongqing city. Chongqing, as the largest and fastest growing city in China, probably represents the most extreme example of urbanization and rapid development in the country. Zhang photographed the people he encountered on his daily travels around the city. The characters in They are the ordinary people in real life – they carry out all kinds of mundane activities in public venues. In Zhang’s images, these ordinary people become the protagonists in the scenes they occupy, often seemingly departing from reality and entering a performance state. These images perhaps reveal some loss of balance and normality caused by the rapid development of modern Chinese society.

“Each of them has their own ordinary life … yet in the images they appear bizarre and absurd, as if they belong to another planet and are completely unique,” Zhang Xiao said.
Apart from its documentary nature, They also reflects the artist’s strong subjective point of view about contemporary life in China: kitschy, absurd, surreal and humorous. Continue Reading →

ACMV Postcard Set

The art of the handwritten letter is rapidly drifting into obscurity – help rescue it!  ツ

7 is a lucky number… therefore each Set contains 7 (identical) Postcards with the ‘Pink Pony’ Motive, by Maxwell Anderson. Thanks, Maxwell! Continue Reading →
